Haguro Mountain: The Five-Story Pagoda Was Closed, but the Pilgrimage Path Was Breathtaking

I slowly made my way up the stone stairway of Mount Haguro—2,446 steps in total.
Although the famous Five-Story Pagoda was under renovation and I couldn’t see it this time, the pilgrimage path itself was absolutely stunning.
A Sacred Path Wrapped in Cedar

The approach to the shrine, surrounded by towering cedar trees, was magnificent.
Everywhere I looked—up, down, left, right—the scenery felt like a perfectly framed photograph.

Even when I kept my eyes on the ground to watch my step, I found stones carved with characters and drawings along the way. These small discoveries made the climb even more enjoyable.

It felt as though the landscape—shaped by both nature and human hands—was quietly speaking to me.
A Strange Mix of Exhaustion and Clarity
Climbing the long stairway was, honestly, tiring.
But somehow, my mind felt refreshed.

Sweat on my skin, steadying my breath, wrapped in the scent of cedar—my body grew tired, yet my heart felt lighter with every step.
Capturing the Air of Haguro in Photographs
This time, my post is mostly photos, but that too feels like a fitting way to share the charm of Mount Haguro.

The quiet path, the rhythm of the stone steps, the deep green of the cedars—
I hope that even through a screen, a little of this atmosphere reaches you.
