🪟 Noticing Something Strange from the Kitchen Window

From my kitchen window, I noticed the blackberry bush looked different. The berries seemed smaller, and there were fewer than usual. When I looked more closely, I realized many had been nibbled on—likely by insects.
🫐 A Sudden Worry and a Rushed Harvest
Afraid the remaining berries would be eaten soon, I hurried outside in a long-sleeved shirt. I had been bitten by gnats a few days earlier while taking photos, so I meant to be cautious… but my worry took over. I ended up snipping off small branches, berries and all.
🍃 Sorting the Harvest and Quiet Regret
Back in the kitchen, I finally saw what I had done. Mixed in with the ripe blackberries were many unripe ones—still red and firm. It felt wasteful, and I regretted acting so quickly.

As I sorted the berries, the saying came to mind: “Haste makes waste.”
If I had taken a moment to breathe and picked only the ripe berries one by one, the harvest would have been much better.
💧 Washing the Berries and Finding Calm Again

I soaked the ripe berries in water to check for insects, but none appeared. After washing and drying them, they looked beautifully glossy again—like small, dark jewels.

🧺 From Garden to Smoothie
I used some of the berries right away to make a smoothie, and froze the rest for later.
